Rent – London Production

When it came to updating Jonathan Larsen’s epic tale of a year in the life of friends producer Andrew Empson turned to William Baker and Steve Anderson to bring a new twist to the production. Bravely opting to go against type with what had been traditionally been done with the piece Baker cast ex Sugababe Siobhan Donaghy in the role of Mimi and her haunting vocal on the song ‘Without You’ was one of the shows many highlights. Playing opposite her was Luke Evans who was then relatively unknown but has since gone on to be tremendous success in Hollywood. The controversial Maureen was initially played by Denise Van Outen and then Jessie Wallace and the role of Mark went to Oliver Thornton who went on to star in “Priscilla Queen Of The Desert”.

Anderson’s role was to take the existing score and update it – often adding orchestral elements or more contemporary treatments all with the blessing of the Larsen estate and the upmost respect for his incredible songs and score.{br}
The show ran at The Duke Of York’s Theatre in the West End.
